Privacy Policy

Who we are

Addiction & Us is independently operated by its founder, Callum Butterworth. It is not a registered charity or a limited company. Callum Butterworth is the data controller for personal information collected through this website. For privacy questions or requests, email Callum.bmgt@gmail.com with the subject "Privacy request" (see our contact page).

What we collect

You can use every part of this website, including all nine guided journeys, without an account and without giving us your name or contact details. Journey answers stay in your browser and are never sent to us. If you choose to leave anonymous journey feedback, we store your rating and any comment you write (please don't include names or personal details). If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.

Website usage

We count page visits and which guidance pathways are chosen, as daily totals only. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, we don't store your IP address with this data, and we don't use third-party analytics.

Cookies

We use only strictly necessary cookies, and only for administrators who sign in to manage the site. Visitors who don't sign in receive no cookies from us, and we don't use local storage to track you.

Service providers

The website is hosted by Emergent (our hosting platform, which also loads a small technical script on each page) and delivered through Cloudflare. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. Like any website request, these providers receive your device's IP address and browser details in order to deliver the page. They don't receive your journey answers. Emails are handled by Google (Gmail).

Spam protection

To prevent abuse, we temporarily keep a one-way, scrambled version of your connection's IP address when you submit feedback. It cannot be used to identify you and is automatically deleted after one hour.

Why we use your information

To improve our guidance (anonymous feedback) and to deal with the reason you emailed us, such as a partnership, a privacy request or a report about content. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: running a safe, accurate information service and responding to the messages people choose to send. For privacy requests, it's our legal obligation.

How long we keep it

Anonymous feedback is deleted automatically after 12 months. Messages received through our earlier contact forms are deleted automatically 12 months after they arrived. Emails are deleted once they're no longer needed, and within 12 months, unless we need to keep a record of a privacy request or a safety report.

Who can see it

Only Callum Butterworth, as the site's administrator. We don't sell or share your information. Access to stored messages is logged.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct or delete your information, and to object to or restrict how we use it. To make a request, use the privacy route on our contact page. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Contact routes: privacy and data, report unsafe content, technical and accessibility.
